Safe Driving Behavior

Posted on by Angell Law Firm

The most devastating accidents often occur at intersections. Most of the time t-bone accidents occur at intersections and are some of the most terrible accidents. Most t-bone accidents consist of high impact, side collisions that can cause whiplash, spinal injuries, or even death. While accidents are not always preventable, you can do a few things to reduce the risk of a side-impact car accident.

Do not drive while distracted by other things: New research shows that distracted drivers cause many accidents. Things like a cell phone, food, make up, or radios are often causes of accidents. If you must talk on the phone use a Bluetooth device or some other sort of hands-free device. Eat at home or at a restaurant, don’t risk your life and other people’s lives by driving distracted.

Don’t drive if you are tired: Another common reason for car accidents is because drivers are tired. After a long day at work, many people tend to zone out and lose focus on driving. This can be extremely dangerous as it can lead to a t-bone accident or rear-end collision. Remember, being tired affects you the same way alcohol does. Don’t risk your life, driving tired. Call someone to pick you up or better yet carpool with a group of co-workers so you can all keep each other awake.

Obey Traffic Laws: While this seems obvious, many accidents occur as a result of someone failing to a obey a traffic law. A common thing drivers fail to do is to use their turn signals. Drivers need to know your next driving maneuver so that they can properly react themselves. Be responsible, give yourself enough time to brake, use your turn signals, and keep a safe distance between you and a car in front of you.

These are three major things you can do to prevent an accident from occurring. Use your common sense when driving; it may be the difference between life and death.

Posted on by Angell Law Firm

New research indicates that approximately 17,000 children are injured in a school bus accident each year in the United States. This is double the amount then previously thought. Children can be injured on a school bus in a variety of ways. Common causes of injury include slip-and-fall accidents, whiplash and being jostled around in a crash. One more uncommon way a child can be injured is by roughhousing. This could be avoided if children were properly supervised. Unfortunately, bus drivers need to focus on the road, so they cannot watch over the children.

Many injuries could be prevented if state laws required seat belts in buses. However, there is no legislation to make seat belts mandatory. If your child was injured in a school bus accident contact on of our school bus accident attorneys to get a free consultation. You may be eligible for compensation if someone else was responsible for your child’s injuries.

Dog Bites and Rabies

Posted on by Angell Law Firm

After a dog attack, many people panic and immediately try to get a rabies shot. In reality, very few domestic dogs have rabies, so you most likely do not need a rabies shot. If the dog looks healthy, then it probably does not have rabies.
Immediately after an attack, you should get the owner’s contact info and request they send you the dog’s vaccination records. Normally, state law will require the dog be quarantined for ten days. The dog will then be released if it does not show signs of sickness. If it does, it will be tested for rabies. If it has rabies, you will then be ordered to receive a series of rabies shots.
If you do not know the owner or if the animal is a stray, call your local animal control agency. They will attempt to find the animal and test it for rabies.
If you are required to take a series of rabies shots, you normally will receive one each time. You will initially receive one shot, and then receive another 5 shots over a month.
Contracting rabies from a dog bite is fairly uncommon and you should not panic after an attack. Stay calm; alert your doctor, and the animal’s vet. They should be able to help you and ensure you are safe. If you have been injured by a dog and would like to talk to a dog bite attorney, call us now.

Atlanta Pedestrian Tips

Posted on by Angell Law Firm

As a parent, it is your responsibility to make sure your child is safe. Many children walk to and from school and it is important you understand your local pedestrian laws in the event that your child is involved in a pedestrian accident. Here are some tips and guidelines you should know and instruct your child to follow:

Walk against traffic: While walking, you should always be walking on the left lane. In other words, you should be walking and facing oncoming traffic head on. Walking with traffic is actually illegal and is often a major cause of pedestrian accidents.
Hold your child’s hand: Children tend to have a lot of energy and can disappear from your view within a few seconds. While walking, hold your child’s hand and make sure they are safe as you cross intersections and streets.

Make sure your child is on the inner side of the street/sidewalk: Your child should always be furthest away from traffic while you are walking. Drivers are much more likely to see a grown adult and will be able to better take action to avoid an accident.
If your child was involved in a car accident or was injured as a result of pedestrian accident, contact on of our experienced personal injury attorneys. We will listen to your case and fight for your rights.

Road Rage in Atlanta

Posted on by Angell Law Firm

Every driver will experience some sort of anger or frustration at another driver at some point in his or her life. While most of the time nothing happens, in some rare cases road rage occurs and someone is seriously hurt. You should know that road rage is never worth it and you should abstain from reacting to any situation that could cause you or another person to be injured.

Remember to take deep breathes while driving. If another driver cuts you off or is driving extremely slowly, take a deep breath and relax. Tailgating is not going to get you to your destination any faster. Be the bigger person, relax, and move on. It isn’t worth getting into a car accident.

Also, you need to remember that most of the time, driver mistakes are not intentional. Chances are a driver that cut you off was not doing so just to irritate you. Most of the time drivers are so distracted that did not even realize they did something wrong or were rude.

Road rage is a serious cause of accidents and can cause serious injuries to people. Just remember, road rage is NEVER worth it. You would not want to put yourself in a bad situation somewhere else, so do not do so while in a vehicle. You can injury or even kill someone or yourself. Do not take the risk. Keep driving and move on.

Tips to Avoid Car Accidents in Atlanta

Posted on by Angell Law Firm

Thousands of car accidents occur in the United States each year. While the weather does cause many accidents, a large percentage of accidents are caused by poor driving or lack of attention by drivers. Edmunds recently released ten driving tips to avoid an accident. Here is what Edmunds recommends to avoid car accidents

Stay Alert of Your Blind Spots: As a driver, you need to be aware of your blind spots. Make sure to check if it safe to merge to a new lane by checking your blind spots.

Avoid the Fast Lane: Most people are not comfortable in the fast lane, so avoid it if you don’t need to drive in it. Plus, the center lane of a highway provides multiple “escape routes” in the event that you would need to take evasive action.

Pay Attention to what is Ahead: Make sure that you are alert and aware of your surroundings every time you get into the wheel. If you see trouble ahead, take proper steps to avoid the problem and continue on your way.

Know Your Car: Make sure that you know your car and your car’s limits. Do not take unnecessary evasive maneuvers that your car cannot handle; you will only end up crashing yourself. Don’t push your car to the limit.

Maintain Your Car: Believe it or not, a fair amount of car accidents could be prevented if the cars involved were properly maintained. Make sure to get regular inspections, have your tires and brakes checked, and change the oil if needed.

Avoid Driving at Night: Driving at night is the worst time to drive. It is incredibly difficult to see around you and there are plenty of drunk drivers around. If you can take a trip during the day, do it.

Judge a Person by the Condition of His/Her Car: If a person’s car is trashed, it is probably a good idea to proceed with caution around them. Large amounts of damage from possible multiple car wrecks are a bad sign.

Maintain Proper Posture: Do not drive in a slouched position. Position yourself so that you are comfortable, yet have firm control of the wheel. You should be sitting up straight.

Drive a Race Car: While this may be expensive, it will benefit you. High-performance driving schools teach evasive driving maneuvers and will greatly improve your general driving skills. Some schools even provide instruction on how to drive in poor weather.

Drive with Your Hands in the 9 and 3 O’clock Position: Many people have a tendency to drive with one arm. By driving in the 9” and 3” position, you are in the best position to respond to take action in an emergency in front of you.

Why Hire An Atlanta Personal Injury Attorney?

Posted on by Angell Law Firm

Today I received a phone call from a couple who was injured in an auto accident. They were extremely frustrated with the process of dealing with the insurance company. The husband requires an expensive surgery and his wife sustained serious injuries as well. Because they are unrepresented and dealing with the insurance company themselves, they are finding it extremely difficult to get the insurance company to agree to an amount anywhere near what is needed to cover their medical costs.

“Can a Personal Injury Attorney Get Me More Money For My Accident?”

Generally speaking, accident victims who are represented by a personal injury attorney are more likely to receive a fair settlement. In fact, in 1999 the insurance industry commissioned a study by the Insurance Research Council that found that injured persons averaged 3.5 times larger settlements than those that chose not to hire an attorney!

Don’t go it alone! If you have been injured, keep in mind that the insurance company does not have your best interests in mind. In fact, it is just the opposite. Insurance companies are interested in their bottom line and that means minimizing your settlement check. In contrast, an injury lawyer is concerned with making sure that you receive as much money as possible for your injuries.

If you have questions, feel free to call Atlanta Personal Injury Attorney Bryce Angell at 770-217-4954 for a free consultation about your legal rights.

Atlanta Laser Hair Removal Burn Lawyer

Posted on by Angell Law Firm

Sometimes hair grows in spots that we do not want it to grow. A popular treatment to remove this hair is called laser hair removal. This procedure can be effective at removing hair but has caused a lot of people to suffer third degree burns. Our experienced attorneys will go after the medical facilities that have patients that have suffered these burns as a result of these treatments.

Laser hair removal is often a very risky procedure. The laser hair treatment uses high concentrations of light to remove hair but at the same time often burns skin, causes discoloration or even permanent scarring.

There are a large number of reasons that complications can occur from the laser hair removal treatment. Common causes of complications include the improper use the lasers, scarring caused from chemical peels, and improper training of the staff member. If that is not bad enough, skin cancer is being found to become more prominent in people using laser hair removal if the patient is burned.

People with tattoos are even more likely to be burned from laser hair removal. The main principle involved with laser hair removal treatment is color difference. Basically, the difference in color between the skin and hair causes the laser to heat up and destroy the hair follicle. If a laser is applied to the skin near a tattoo, the ink will attract the laser causing it to heat up and burn the tattoo. If the tattoo is being burned, that means the skin is also being burned.

If a laser burn injured you during laser hair removal treatment, do not talk to the doctor or insurance company before speaking to an attorney. Our personal injury attorneys will protect you and ensure you receive fair compensation for your injuries. Do not let the insurance company intimidate you, contact one of our experienced Atlanta personal injury attorneys and receive the best possible award for your injuries.
